I was on the hunt for this kind of floral medallion dresser for a while until on popped in an estate sale. It was purchased by the client from my raw inventory on etsy. The before picture I have is not even the worst version of it. The center drawers had plastic decorative thingy that had to go! This picture is courtesy of my friend Beth.
I pulled those off the minute I unloaded the dresser into the shop. It got rid of the country vibe instantly!
I visioned the dresser in some shade of navy with the medallions painted gold. Luckily the client loved that and picked Fine Paints of Europe’s Midnight. I love this color! It’s deep, vibrant, just gorgeous.
The medallions were made of heavy duty plastic. They were super sturdy and mounted with two screws on either side. I have tried to replicate these pulls but haven’t been very impressed with the end result.
I also thought that it was best to paint the center knobs in the same color as the dresser – something I have not done before. Painting pulls with the same color as the dresser, to me, is a sheer laziness in 99% cases. You will see it in poorly painted furniture majority of the times. They didn’t bother to take off the knobs, they just started painting.
I, on the other hand, took the pulls off, cleaned them, then primed and painted them separately.
I wanted the gold medallions to get all the attention. The smaller knobs needed to fade in the background. Client liked that idea as well. Isn’t it awesome when client likes your creative vision?
I would have trouble focusing on getting ready if that dresser was in my bedroom. I would be too distracted by the gloss 🙂 I am so in love with the medallions that I am always on the hunt for another one of these and I have not found one yet. I have googled several times the term”medallion dresser” and haven’t come across any painted ones for inspiration. Maybe I am calling it the wrong name?
Anyway. There you have it. Chunky, floral, gold pulls on a uber glossy, curvy, navy dresser. I mean it doesn’t get any better than that.
I also have a matching tallboy that I will post some day.
